The Kalamalka Bowl, as the proposed amphitheatre has been tagged in this developmental phase, would serve as a valuable complement to existing performance venues in the area, including the Vernon Performing arts Centre and smaller amphitheatres in the Okanagan. It would take advantage of the Okanagan's luxuriant springs, long summers, and extended autumns.
The proposed amphitheatre would take advantage of the unique topography of the College's Vernon campus and the views of Kalamalka Lake and surrounding mountains and valleys.
Developing the plans for building and operating such a facility will require considerable consultation and input - from neighbors, from performing groups, from architects and all levels of government. The Okanagan Summer Festival Society is committed to a co-operative and consultative approach
The Okanagan Summer Festival Society is a non-profit, registered charity that is always interested in recruiting new members and that welcomes support from the community. To find out more visit http://kalbowl.ca/the-okanagan-summer-festival-society/
The Okanagan Summer Festival Society is proposing an outdoor amphitheatre with fixed seating for approximately 1,500 people and flexible seating for an additional 4,500 additional people on the Vernon campus of Okanagan College. The Society and the College's Board of Governors have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that allows the Society to pursue the concept with Board support.
